Cocker Spaniel Dog Portrait Initial Stage

Cocker spaniel pastel detailed

It has been a while since I updated my blog, but I’m back! I would like to show you the work in progress images of Cocker Spaniel Portrait I’m currently working on. This is the initial stage.

I have been busy with creating pastel sketches for a company here in Sweden called Bamses Bollar among other things. I will write a blog post about my project with them another time, when I get a few photos of their products with my printed drawings on them.

This Cocker spaniel portrait will be a detailed pastel painting. Yes, I’m taking commissions in detailed pastels again. The truth is that I realized how much I missed painting them and also, people kept telling me how great my detailed pastel work is…

So, this is the initial sketching stage. In past I always used the Uart 600 grade  sanded paper for my detailed pastel work. Uart is a great paper, however it’s not that nice on my fingers. I decided to try out the popular Pastelmat paper, touching the surface the first time me me think “how can this paper even hold pastels at all?”.

However, to my pleasant surprise, this paper is absolutely AMAZING. I just LOVE it! It’s so easy to draw on it, it feels like cheating! I can’t wait to continue with this work!

Anyway, here are the first work in progress images…
