Additional Information from the owner:
Wilma was born in November 2003; we got her when she only was 10 weeks old. Usually you get parrots to your home when they are about 14 weeks, but I gave her food by hand the last weeks. She learned everything from us, even how to fly. I bought her a harness to be able to be outside. She loved to be outside, on walks, climb in trees and getting out to cycle. Then she sat on my shoulder and I held on to the leash right next to me so she couldn’t fall or fly away. Often I took my birds to the park, so they could sit in a tree, climb and nibble for hours while I was reading. We have a weekend cottage and there were they always with us. Parrots are very demanding animals to own so I took every chance I had to take them along.
Wilma was a rowdy and very special girl. Most of all she loved being with us, if we were at home that was the only thing she cared about. She flew after us all the time, sat next to the dining table on her own stick and ate our food.
She was very kind to us, loved to sleep with me in the bed. She sat on my arm under the quilt and enjoyed her self. When we went to sleep she crawled up there, putted her beak in my “eye corner” and whispered “Goodnight…sleep?” with a asking voice. When I came home from work she immediately climbed up my shoulder, pressed her beak against my cheek, made a kiss sound and then said “ I love you”. She was smart! All toys and clever candy search solutions I did/bought she solved very fast! I used to teach her some tricks too, to wave, to spin and dance. She also knew two different colours. If I asked after green (she had a plastic puzzle for children) she picked it up and got candy for it. She was always happy, always on good mood and rowdy.
Wilma got sick suddenly and even if we tried to save her, we didn’t succeed. The last visit at the vet she died in my arms. I saw how her body just gave up and we couldn’t do anything else then just being there for her. Wilma was everything for me, we were supposed to live a lifetime together, instead she didn’t even get 3 years old. Life is terrible unfair. All I can hope for now is that she has it good where she is now, looking down at us, knowing how much we loved her.

Step1 |
|

|
|
On the First step of the progress I’m trying to find the right angles with help of a pencil. I’m measuring with the pencil from a distance of the canvas. I squint with my eyes to see angles easier. After I’m finished with the pencil I start painting the animal as a simple sketch with thin dark oils.
|
On the second step of the Painting I’m filling out all the white canvas in the background with a layer of oil colours. I try not to add too much paint though, since more layers will be added to the background at a later stage to achieve a wonderful light in the painting along with the subject. |
Step3 |
|

|
|
Step three of the process I’m filling out rest of the white canvas. There is usually no good light in the artwork and no details yet but already from early stage I’m trying to achieve at least some light at the same time as I exaggerate the colours a bit. |
After I left the Painting to dry I started to add more details to the animal and also added more paint to the background. I lightened some areas and darkened others to prepare for the lightest colours. Now I have the biggest challenge left, the step with details. |

Info about my work In progress pages |
When my customers pay for the Portrait they want to see their photo or mock-up on these pages as soon as possible. After that, they come to check the Work In Progress many times a day!
Good thing they do that, because any extra help I get from them as the owner of the Pet can only make the Portrait better. I always like to have the customer AND the photograph as a guide throughout the process of my Artwork.
Other wishes, no problem! Maybe your friend has already passed away and you don't have the perfect picture? Maybe you only have a picture where he was old already and want him to look younger? Don't worry, together we'll make him look young and full of life again and you'll have an ever lasting memory that will never fade!
This all depends on further information and wishes of the owner. Sometimes people ask me to paint dogs, cats or horses that already have passed away and they ask me to make him/her to look younger then on the photo.
I have three Work In Progress pages because I'm usually working on more then one Portrait at the same time. Oil Paintings have to dry for a day before I can add more detail, meanwhile I can work on other Portraits. After the Portraits are finished, these pages will be updated with new work. Finished work will be uploaded tp my Gallery of Pet Portraits or Archieves, have a look at my complete collection there. Thank you for visiting my Work In Progress Pages and welcome back any time! It is impossible for a scanner or camera to capture the real thing, since there always is a slight change of color due to light effects in the room where the photos were taken...
