Sunset Value Study in Oil

May 22nd, 2014

A few days ago I printed out a black and white photo of a sunset and decided to paint a value study. It might seam quite boring to create a sunset oil painting with no color, but I did that on purpose of course. I needed to do this as a study for the oil painting of the three Pharaoh dogs I’m currently working on (even though that background isn’t quite a sunset). The painting turned out really nice and I really regret painting this on student canvas-like paper. Well, I will create many more of these in the future, so a little canvas is ordered. Anyway, the conclusion is that the values of some really strong colors are much darker than they actually appear to be.
