Pet Portraits In Pastel – Chinese Chin Fie

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

Today I finally completed the dog portrait in pastel of Fie. She is a beautiful Chinese chin and have won prices in dog shows! Well, it is a small portrait in size 8″ x 10, but still I was able to paint some detail there. I’m very happy with the result and I hope my client will be too. Now it’s time to get it framed and we will have to make up our minds about how to frame it right. A frame can either  make or destroy any Artwork, so it’s important to frame it right. See the pet portrait below and the close-up is bigger then actual size.

Sepia sketch in hard pastel of Guitarist

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Today I packed the framed portrait of George and send it to the client in UK, hopefully it will arrive soon.

Since my father’s birthday was in Saturday I can now finally blog about the gift I gave him. I didn’t want to ruin the surprise by blogging it to early.  I created a 16 hour Sepia sketch of my father playing his guitar with the band on a Blues Festival here in Sweden last year. The reference photo I used was from a photograph I took at the location.

The frame we choose for the hard pastel sketch artwork is like made for this particular style, it also has dots of the same color hues as in my sketch. Just Perfect!

Pet Portraits in pastel – step 3 of Fie

Friday, September 24th, 2010

I haven’t been blogging that much lately… well it’s because I have been painting on the Cavalier King Charles painting almost all week and now also created the third step of the Chinese chin female Fie. The painting of  Cavaliers is almost completed, finally… Hugh… and I think, even though there is still some hours left on this pastel painting that it’s coming along nicely. So here it is:

Today I also painted second step of the little dog Fie. I think its coming along nicely, the eyes will probably take the most time in this portrait. I also want many parts of this portrait to be very soft so I’m taking it easy there as I don’t want to destroy everything.

Framed cat portrait of George

Friday, September 17th, 2010

Today I went to collect two framed portraits, one of the two is the cat George. The client was very specific in what kind of frame she wanted and the way it should be framed, the frame is 2cm and the mount is also 2cm in width. So here are some photographs of the framed cat next to the Christmas tree.

Pet Portraits in progress – Fie, a Chinese chin

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

This is the first step of Fie, the little Chinese chin portrait I’m currently working on. It’s my second pastel commission and I’m having fun painting it. Tomorrow I will complete the second step and blog it! I think this client is the youngest I have had and I’m happy that even younger people loves my paintings.

The reason I didn’t blog anything for a while is that I have been preparing a surprise for someone I know, that is still a secret though. I will blog about it by the end of this month.

Later I’m also looking forward to paint the next pastel painting commission of Bossy and Sunshine, the next size in line, a 12 x 10 inch or bespoke which will fit the photo mock-up I created.

Cat portraits in Pastel – Final scan of George

Friday, September 10th, 2010

This is final scan of the cat George in pastel which I have been working on. It’s a very small painting/drawing (8″x10″), so it was a challenge to create this one :) . But the UART paper makes it much easier and I’m grateful for that. I had a terrible cold the entire week and the first few days I was so sick I couldn’t work at all. Now I’m almost my self again, so I will keep on working on the next commissions I have.

Cat portrait in Pastel – First two steps of George

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Today I started with the portrait of the cat George in Pastel. He is very cute, behind the Christmas tree :) . I’m still in the beginning of the process, but I’m having allot of fun painting with pastel. The Portrait is painted on UART sanded paper, 800 grade. I decided to use the finest grade because there won’t be any paint in the background and I want to get the line between George and the paper as soft as possible.
