Step three of Asta

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Today my work mainly included working with oils on canvas and replying to some emails. Step three of Asta was finally finished and I’m uploading her here. This is just the first layer of oils, mainly to block in all white canvas with paint. I don’t work with any details or right colors, the right colors come more and more with each step. REMOVED

Dog portraiture oil portrait of Asta – Step1

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

This painting has been on a hold for some time, but now it finally got its own place on my work in progress pages. I started this first step some months ago and it has been waiting for me to continue working on it since then. Today I finally painted step two which only has been blocking in the background. This dog is a mixed breed between German shepherd and Samoyed. The genetics has mainly taken the shepherd side and she looks little like a long-haired German shepherd. Her name is Asta.

Watercolor portrait of dog named Lilo

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Finally I managed to complete the little painting of Lilo and I found the time to post it here. It’s a small watercolor portrait in size 7×9 inch. Watercolor is not an easy medium to work with, but I do love this portrait! It will definitely go to my online gallery one I will have to add it there.

Impressionistic oils of Schnauzer Ella

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Some time ago I painted Ella in oils. I took a while for it to dry since there is allot of color on the canvas. I scanned it and sent it and the client already got the painting. She specifically asked for a messy panting and she got one! This one really lights up the entire room and gets everyone’s attention. So here she is.. Little Ella.

Watercolor Portrait step 4

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Here is step four of Lilo. There is allot more work to do, but I would like to keep it a bit more colorful then the photograph since it’s a watercolor. I hope you like it so far.

Pet portraits step three of Gully and Jixxy

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

I’m uploading step three of the oil portrait of Gully and Jixxy. I blocked in rest of the canvas with base colors in a sloppy way, just to guide me with the next step which will be more accurate. The reference photographs of these two dogs are nice, so the painting will look great. I paint my oils with Winsor & Newton Artists Oil colour so it takes a few days before each step is dry but it’s all worth it since the quality of the oils is very high.

It will take some weeks before I will upload next step since I have the watercolor of Lilo and a web site to complete. I also have a colored pencil drawing to create of a dog named Shona, but that work in progress is not available for web site visitors because there is a big chance it would ruin the surprise. I will however blog the progress and the final scan of the portrait once the gift holder will receive the portrait. Here is step three of Gully and Jixxy:

Final Scan of Pet Portrait

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

This is the final scan of Butu, the Lhaso Apso . This is a dog portrait in oils on canvas, size 38x46cm with detailed background. I had allot of work in the background which turned out really nice at the end. I started with painting the entire flower scene dark, only leaving the white flowers and then by each step added more details. I find it easy to work that way. Butu had to look whiter then on the reference photo where she looked more yellow with brown shadows. The client was delighted with the outcome. So here is Butu:

Second step of Lilo

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

Today I continued to work with the watercolor of Lilo, I’m also hoping to do the third step today and post it in the evening. I’m still working on the coat hues and bigger spots, preparing for the dark coat over it.
