Step two of Gully and Jixxy
Wednesday, December 17th, 2008And here is step two…

And here is step two…

Yesterday I started with the oil painting of Gully and Jixxy, the two Nova Scotia duck tolling retrievers. I also started with another dog portrait in oils of a Samoyed x German Shepherd mix named Asta but I don’t have any space left on my work in progress pages so I will start to post the steps later (when the oil painting of Butu is finished). Today I was working with Butu but it needs some more work before I can post step 4.
I also need to start working with an impressionistic oil portrait of a little doggy, I will surely have to start working harder (if that is possible) to fid time finish all this portraits. It’s good that none of these portraits has deadlines, pheeww. It’s funny that someone actually wanted to have an oil painting, painted in an impressionistic way since I don’t offer that on my pages any more. She specifically asked if I could create a painting like that for her. Its really fun to paint that way so I’m looking forward to it.
So here is the first step of Gully and Jixxy…

Today I had allot of work with a clients web site when I updated it for him. I also added a new work in progress for a oil portrait of two cute dogs. After that I started to work on the watercolor of the little doggy Lilo. I fist made a sketch with pencil, with lines drawn as exact as possible. After the sketch I start to fill out the big areas with base color. So here is Lilo:

Today I finally managed to complete the colored pencil portrait of Rottweiler Jack. This drawing is very small, size A4 and the reference photo was a bit blurry because it was originally taken in full body. I still think the drawing looks nice, what do you think?

Today I have been painting Butu, finally I managed to finish step three. This is the step where I start to darken everything, add little more details to the background and prepare it for the next step. In oils you really need to first paint everything dark, in order to lighten the parts needed in the next two steps.

Finally I can take the time to finish the two portraits I have been working on for a while. I had to finish the Cocker Spaniel pencil drawing first and send it overseas. Today I was working on the Colored pencil portrait of Jack which I’m posting here. Now it’s not long before this portrait is finished! I also have the oil painting of Butu left, which I will be working on this week too. There are some oil portraits and a watercolor next in line.

Finally here is the final scan of Annie, the American Cocker Spaniel. She is blind and has white eyes, but I drew the eyes as I think they looked before she got sick with help of the outlines of the eyes.

Here is step four of Annie, Im hoping to complete the drawing tomorrow. It takes time because I’m drawing everything I see, I dont leave anything out as I do usually. The client didn’t pay for this technique, but I wanted to see how it looks
I have to continue working… Hope you like it.
