Step three of Annie

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Here is step three of Annie, the drawing which I have been working on for three days now. The hardest part is finished, all I will do with the areas that are completed now is make the shadows darker. Now to the neck and ears…

Step two of Annie

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

I was working with the pencil drawing of Annie almost whole day long. It doesn’t look like I got very far, but the part with most work truly is the nose part where there is allot of short fur and I draw everything I see so there is allot of detail involved even though this isn’t the best photo i could wish for. Once Ive done the entire face, the process will go faster though. Tomorrow I will continue with this drawing.

First step of Annie

Friday, November 28th, 2008

Today I started with the pencil drawing of Annie, the American Cocker Spaniel female. I start out with creating a simple sketch of the dog and once I’ve done that, I start with the details immediately, since I don’t work with the shading technique any more. I work with the drawing like with many small drawings; I complete one part and start with one other area, complete it and so on. It surely takes longer before the drawing looks like it’s on the way till it’s going to be finished, but the outcome will look more realistic.

I will work with the drawing the entire weekend and more, until it’s finished and ready to be sent

Step three of Jack

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

In between the deadline drawings I drew step three of Jack. Jack has allot of dark colors in his coat and most artists say it’s very hard to achieve dark colors with colored pencils, however if you just do it the right way the colors get wonderful and very dark. It’s not good to work with colored pencils on thin papers because so many layers have to be applied that the paper can brake. The colored pencils are a very hard medium to work with and it takes allot of patience to work with them, but it’s just the right medium for me. I just love it!

Now I will have to start and complete the pencil drawing of Annie to send it away in time for Christmas. Rest of the work will just have to wait until then.

Final scan of pencil portrait

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

This is the completed pencil portrait of Rolf. Now all four pencil portraits are finished and they will be mounted and the person who commissioned the portraits will come to collect them in Thursday. It will be a gift to the people who were portrayed and the portraits will hang on the wall in the company they work (if I understood right).

Step four of Pencil drawing

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Little late, but I’m posting step four of the pencil portrait here. This portrait didn’t take that long to draw because Rolf didn’t wear any complicated outfit, like the rest of the men did. Sometimes a shirt can take longer to draw then the face. Another thing that can take much time is the hair, so that was the part that took longest in this portrait. I had to draw this portrait almost only with shading technique because the photo was blurry and that felt easier to do. So here he is…

Step three of Rolf

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

As I promised yesterday I’m posting step three of the pencil portrait I’m currently working on. I really need to finish this one veeeery soon so I will continue tomorrow and until it’s finished. People are patiently waiting for me to finish their websites and portraits so I have to work many hours a day to make it happen. It’s going really well with this pencil portrait so I don’t see any problems to finish it until the deadline. Here it is…

Step two of Pencil Portrait

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

I have been working with the pencil portrait for two more days, but this is what I drew yesterday. I will upload the next step tomorrow for you all to see.

Pencil drawing of Rolf

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

This is the final pencil drawing out of four, which I have been working on for a while. The persons name is Rolf and also this portrait is size A4. I started out with a simple sketch and continued with adding some shading. This portrait will not be as detailed as the other ones because of the photograph, but still it will be a nice portrait. Not all is about details, it’s more important that it looks like Rolf when the drawing is completed. Don’t draw what you can’t see if you would like to achieve a realistic drawing.

Painting of Butu

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Yesterday I started with the oil painting of Lhasa apso ”Butu” (Shibutu proper name) and I continued blocking in the next step today. I didn’t work all day, just a few hours. Unfortunately I had other things to take care of today, but I’m looking forward to have more time to work tomorrow.

I always start out with creating a very simple sketch of the subject with black oil colors and continue with blocking in the background before I start with the subject, in this case beautiful Butu. By this time the background is very simple, with some base colors. In next stage I’m blocking in the subject with some base colors in trying to find at least some lights and shadows. I’m working from dark to light all the time, but to achieve right dark colors I need to add several layers.

Tomorrow I will start out with the final pencil drawing; I really need to finish that one very soon. Butu has to wait some time because the paint needs to dry before I start with the next layer. Let’s not forget about Jack, the colored pencil drawing that I’m working on and other portraits that are on the way. I’m fully booked for Christmas by now so if someone is looking for a perfect gift, don’t forget that Gift Certificates are available at all times. So here is Butu…
