Tervueren Dog Portraits in Oils by Katja Turnsek
Dog Portrait Commission Info
Wolfgang is a fun and very loyal Belgian Tervuren male. He has a little white spot on his nose which is very unusual for the breed. Jody contacted me to paint a beautiful oil portrait of Wolfgang for her in a decent size.
I painted him on stretched Belgian linen canvas back in the days when I still stretched the canvas myself. She sent me excellent reference photos for me to choose from. It was a pleasure to create this oil portrait, the hours I spent behind the easel just seamed to disappear.
Medium: Oil on Linen Canvas
Size: 40 x 30 cm
Year Painted: 2011
Subject: Dog / Tervueren / Wolfgang

The Reference Photograph of "Wolfgang"
Jody let me choose which photograph I found most suitable for a portrait. For me it was not hard to choose at all, this was my absolute favorite. I cropped it a bit at the bottom and decided to paint a warm background as the colors were a too cold on the original photo. No mock-up was needed here.
Dog Portrait in Progress
Below you can view a few work in progress photos of this portrait. It is important for me that you understand the painting process at the same as you have a full input the entire time, that is why I’m prepared to spend some extra time in order to keep you regularly updated. I have had this feature for many years, even though I uploaded the progress images to a static html page at first. Now I use my portraits in blog for this exciting feature. If you do not wish to share your painting’s progress or the completed painting with the world, I can send you the progress images by email. Several clients decided to do this, especially famous ones.
Thanks for painting such a wonderful portrait. Here are two photos of Wolfgang with the painting. The portrait will be going to our framer shortly, but we thought you would enjoy the before and after. We are just thrilled. Wolfgang does show it, but he is thrilled also. Have a great week.
