Pharao Hound Dog Portraits in Oils by Katja Turnsek

Pharao Hound dog portraits

Dog Portrait Commission Info

This is a portrait of Vilda, commissioned by a client here in Sweden. The background-color on the reference photo suited the colors of the dog very well so I decided to use them on the portrait too.

Both me and Ingrid decided to have the background painted much simpler in order to make Vilda stand out a bit more on the painting than she did on the reference photo. This portrait is created with a limited palette to create the perfect color harmony. This is a very calm and beautiful portrait, I'm very happy with the result.

The Reference Photograph of "Vilda"

Ingrid sent me many beautiful photos of Vilda, but one of them really stood out from the crowd. As you can see on the photo, it is taken outside with natural light. I decided to paint a simpler and even more blurry background, but didn't have to make any extra photo mock-ups in order to to that.

Dog Portrait in Progress

Below you can view a few work in progress photos of this portrait. It is important for me that you understand the painting process at the same as you have a full input the entire time, that is why I’m prepared to spend some extra time in order to keep you regularly updated. I have had this feature for many years, even though I uploaded the progress images to a static html page at first. Now I use my portraits in blog for this exciting feature. If you do not wish to share your painting’s progress or the completed painting with the world, I can send you the progress images by email. Several clients decided to do this, especially famous ones.

Hi Katja

Many thanks for the wonderful painting you made on my Wild (SEUCH Enigma Standing Ovations)! It is so natural and alive, every hair is just right and her expression is so well interpreted. The painting has been given a prominent place in our home and all who see it becomes completely overwhelmed, you have really succeeded and I will always be extremely happy with it!

Cordial greetings,
Ingrid Paulsson
