Ordering steps
Choosing a Medium
Choosing a Medium
All portraits on this web site are created by me and are true originals. I offer mediums: Oils, Coloured Pencils, Pencils and watercolours. Below you can read some short informative texts about these mediums.

See my Pet Portrait Galleries here -->>
Oils Pet Portraits
Oil Painting on stretched Canvas
The most expensive and impressive medium. My Oil Paintings are created in layers with thin oils and takes many hours to complete. They are created realistic and are the perfect medium to choose if you are looking for an ever lasting portrait, just about anything can be done with Oils. I stretch the canvas myself and any dimension can be commissioned.
Coloured pencil Pet Portraits
Coloured Pencil Drawing
I use a colour palette of 120 colours, using Derwent Artists. The Coloured Pencil drawings are created in layers and they take almost as long to complete as my oil paintings. I use thick high quality paper to create these drawings on and these drawings are very high detailed and realistic. If you like the style of drawings and require a more delicate medium then the traditional pencils, this may be the medium for you.
Pencil Pet Portraits
Pencil Drawing
The traditional black and white pencil drawings are very much loved. The perfect way to reflect lightning and shades to an animal. If you have a black or white dog or just about any animal and want a bit dramatic portrait then this medium if for you. I use the same paper for all my drawings, both black and white and coloured. All my pencil Drawings are detailed and realistic.
Watercolour Pet Portraits
Watercolour Painting
My Watercolour Paintings are done on thick watercolour paper and can be commissioned with full background without extra costs. My watercolour paintings can also be commissioned in any size. There is something special with these Portraits, an expression of light that no other medium can achieve.
Choose Style and type for your portrait
Choose Style and type for your portrait
Now its time to choose a style for your portrait. You can commission a impressionistic pet portrait in Oils or Watercolours. Choose a proper dimension depending on how many pets you would like to have portrayed.

See style & type samples here -->>
Realistic and high detailed or Impressionistic
In mediums: Oils and Watercolours there is a possibility to choose an impressionistic style to your portrait if you would prefer to have a modern touch to your portrait.

You can also choose not to include colours; these paintings can be painted black & white.
Choosing dimension
What dimension to choose of course depends on budget or how many animals you would like to have portrayed on the same paper or canvas. If you would like my professional opinion about necessary dimensions, contact me through my email.

Note that some dimensions just aren’t suitable for 2 or more animals.
Choosing style

You can choose to commission a portrait with or without backgrounds. You can also choose my combination portrait style that reflects you animal’s activity and personality in any way.

The most suitable medium for full backgrounds is Oils on Canvas and watercolours.

Select your photographs
Select your photographs
Select your high quality photos. In case you don't have a high resolution photo, it's better to take new ones because I need the details to be able to reflect the unique personality and likeness of your animal. All about taking suitable photos can be found on this order information section.
Photo muck-ups
Once we agreed which photo to use for your portrait I will create a mock-up or montage of your photo in Photoshop. How this mock-up will look all depends on your wishes. Many times I only have to delete the background and add colouring that suits your animal. Many times I also have to do a full photo montage to include elements that will be used for the portrait.

The combination portrait always requires creating a montage for you to have an input of your portrait. Sometimes several mock-ups have to be made before my clients like it.
For an example I’m showing this photograph of a Tibetan terrier I got from a client. She sent me a good photo but she wanted me to add a different background, so I created a mock-up in Photoshop for her.

I always search the internet for free photo web sites so I can use good background photographs and then do a montage with the photos along with reference photos in Photoshop.
