Labrador Retiever Pet Portraits in Oils by Katja Turnsek
Pet Portrait Commission Info
Gabe contacted me to paint their much loved Labrador retriever Max. He was a lovely gentle giant and he very much deserved to have a special place on their family wall. This is a quite large painting, painted on professionally stretched Italinan Linen canvas.
I used a very limited premixed palette for this portrait, which resulted in a nice color harmony. The client also decided to have the portrait framed by my local framer.
Medium: Oil on Linen Canvas
Size: 60 x 55 cm
Year Painted: 2013
Subject: Dog / Labrador Retriever / Max
Commissioned by: Gabriel Guijarro, USA
The Reference Photograph of "Max"
I got a few photos of Max, but only one was good enough for a portrait. I had to make some changes to the photo though and while I painted, I also decided to blur up parts of the background even more. The photo was very yellow, so I had to adjust all colors to mach one other photo I had of Max.
Pet Portrait in Progress
Below you can view a few work in progress photos of this portrait. It is important for me that you understand the painting process at the same as you have a full input the entire time, that is why I’m prepared to spend some extra time in order to keep you regularly updated. I have had this feature for many years, even though I uploaded the progress images to a static html page at first. Now I use my portraits in blog for this exciting feature. If you do not wish to share your painting’s progress or the completed painting with the world, I can send you the progress images by email. Several clients decided to do this, especially famous ones.
The painting is beautiful. I love it. I look forward to having hanging up in our home.
