French Bulldog Pet Portraits in Graphite Pencil by Katja Turnsek

Pet Portrait Commission Info

Janja commissioned two portraits of her French Bulldog female Leia. One conte crayon and one pencil drawing. You can view the other portrait in my conte gallery. Leia is about two years old, but a very sick dog as she is allergic to almost everything she eats.

Janja is doing everything she can to find the right food for Leia and hopefully then everything will be fine. This portrait was a Christmas gift from Janja to her husband. The pencil drawing was created on my favorite paper Fabriano Artistico.

Drawing Information

Medium: Graphite Pencil
Size: 25 x 25 cm
Year Drawn: 2013
Subject: Dog / French Bulldog / Leia
Commissioned by: Janja Biberdzic, Sweden

The Reference Photograph of "Leia"

Janja wanted a drawing with some background visible, which is a very nice idea of course. First I changed the photo to black and white and then I made the entire background allot lighter and more blurry. All adjustments made Leia stand out nicely in the picture. The reference photo was very beautiful, but a bit small.

Pet Portrait in Progress

Below you can view a few work in progress photos of this portrait. It is important for me that you understand the painting process at the same as you have a full input the entire time, that is why I’m prepared to spend some extra time in order to keep you regularly updated. I have had this feature for many years, even though I uploaded the progress images to a static html page at first. Now I use my portraits in blog for this exciting feature. If you do not wish to share your painting’s progress or the completed painting with the world, I can send you the progress images by email. Several clients decided to do this, especially famous ones.

Hi Katja,

Many thanks for the pictures. Really beautiful!
It will be so fun to see my husband's reaction when he gets them. The drawings are wonderful.
