Child Portraits in Graphite Pencil by Katja Turnsek
Child Portrait Info
This is a graphite pencil portrait of Emily. Emily is my own sweet and clever little daughter and she was about three years old on this drawing. Sometimes I find time to create some portraits for myself and this is one of them. The drawing was created on 350g Fabriano 5 watercolor paper, a paper I used regularly back then.
I think this was my first portrait created on Fabriano 5. Nowadays I use Fabriano Artisitco Extra white, because of the detail. I just love the feel and how the different textures came out on this drawing.
Medium: Graphite Pencil
Size: 40 x 30 cm
Year Drawn: 2010
Subject: Child / Emily
Commissioned by: no one, private collection
The Reference Photograph of "Emily"
My husband usually takes photos in our family, I simply forget to take the camera. I loved some of the photos he took one day ad decided to create drawing. I cropped the photo, made it black and white and deleted unwanted trees in the background. That is all I did before I started to draw Emily. The original photo is to the right.
Child Portrait in Progress
Below you can view a few work in progress photos of this portrait. It is important for me that you understand the painting process at the same as you have a full input the entire time, that is why I’m prepared to spend some extra time in order to keep you regularly updated. I have had this feature for many years, even though I uploaded the progress images to a static html page at first. Now I use my portraits in blog for this exciting feature. If you do not wish to share your painting’s progress or the completed painting with the world, I can send you the progress images by email. Several clients decided to do this, especially famous ones.
