Dog on Beach Painting in Oils by Katja Turnsek
Dog Portrait Commission Info
Nathan contacted me to create this painting for Christmas with a very short deadline, but unfortunately the painting arrived one day too late. Buster was a gift from Nathan to his wife of their lost dog Buster at the beach. Sadly they lost Buster only a few days before I got to create this painting for them.
I stretched the canvas for this painting myself, as there wasn’t enough time to wait for a professionally stretched to be delivered. I decided to simplify both the background and the dog this time, as I thought it wouldn’t look as good with too much detail everywhere. I wanted to make the head in focus.
Medium: Oil on Linen Canvas
Size: 50 x 40 cm
Year Painted: 2013
Subject: Dog / Mixed breed / Buster
Commissioned by: Nathan Aldinger, USA
The Reference Photograph of "Buster"
The reference photograph I received from Nathan was excellent and no further adjustments were needed. All I did was cropped the image to fit the canvas dimensions. This is a once in a lifetime photo shot.
Dog Portrait in Progress
Below you can view a few work in progress photos of this portrait. It is important for me that you understand the painting process at the same as you have a full input the entire time, that is why I’m prepared to spend some extra time in order to keep you regularly updated. I have had this feature for many years, even though I uploaded the progress images to a static html page at first. Now I use my portraits in blog for this exciting feature. If you do not wish to share your painting’s progress or the completed painting with the world, I can send you the progress images by email. Several clients decided to do this, especially famous ones.
