Deutsch Drahthaar Pet Portraits in Graphite Pencil by Katja Turnsek
Pet Portrait Commission Info
This is a little drawing in graphite pencil of a Deutsch Drahthaar. This is a rare breed, but I was lucky enough to draw Hutch. I have previously drawn a full-body drawing for the same client of a Malinois, but that pencil drawing can't be found in my galleries. Todd will use both drawings for a logotype.
The paper used here is Frabriano 5, a paper which used to be my favorite. The close-up below is much larger than actual size, so it might look a bit rough.
Medium: Graphite Pencil
Size: 25 x 20 cm
Year Drawn: 2012
Subject: Dog / Deutsch Drahthaar / Hutch
Commissioned by: Todd M. McLester, USA
The Reference Photograph of "Hutch"
Todd sent me several nice photos of Hutch for me to choose from. I ended up choosing a photo which would fit the older drawing I created several years earlier. I deleted the background, but left the shadow and floor. The original photo is to the right.
Pet Portrait in Progress
Below you can view a few work in progress photos of this portrait. It is important for me that you understand the painting process at the same as you have a full input the entire time, that is why I’m prepared to spend some extra time in order to keep you regularly updated. I have had this feature for many years, even though I uploaded the progress images to a static html page at first. Now I use my portraits in blog for this exciting feature. If you do not wish to share your painting’s progress or the completed painting with the world, I can send you the progress images by email. Several clients decided to do this, especially famous ones.
Great job, Katja.
I'll be using this drawing of Hutch as part of my Bluestem Kennel logo, along with the drawing you did of Bosco.
