A bit unusual portrait made by me since its a portrait of both human and pet. Ken contacted me to portray only the cat in the beginning in pencils but changed his mind about both the subject and medium. At the end it look really good and I just love this portrait. This is how Ken described Mona for me:
Well, she’s called “Mona” because it also means “monkey”. She’s very monkey-like on her cat tree, where she does amazing gymnastics, hanging upside down, or by just her front paws. Physically, she’s quite beautiful. Very formal, of course, with the black and white. And her perfectly placed white mittens. And great, white whiskers and eyebrows. She’s very sweet, but also very independent and autonomous, and knows her own mind. She doesn’t really like to be “held”, and only rarely does she like to be stroked and petted (usually just by James, at particular times during the day, like at night while going to bed, or early morning…) But I say Hello to her often by kissing her on the forehead, which she doesn’t seem to mind… too much.
She’s very playful, and is always up for wrestling with Daddy, or grabbing his feet as he walks by.
She’s a bit shy of people, and a bit suspicious. One of my favorite attributes, that never fails to make me laugh, is when she’s in her “cat-condo”, looking at me like I’M just slightly crazy, and like she needs to keep an eye on me because G-d only knows what I’ll do next! Her expression in the photo I sent is typical… a slight combative stare… For me, the caption for this photo would be: “Come a little closer... I want to swat you.” (But don’t get me wrong… she’s never mean or malicious. Just playful.)mOne of my other favorite things about Mona is how she took over the fruit bowl on James’ kitchen table, and made it her home. She loves to sit and lay in bowls and boxes. (I’m including a photo of her in her bowl.) Mona somehow combines Sweet, Warm, and Feisty, which I think is somewhat captured in the photo you’re going to use for the portrait. |
