Arab Horse Portraits in Graphite Pencil by Katja Turnsek
Horse Portrait Commission Info
Graphite pencil portrait of Arab horse "Fossing". This is my first horse portrait in detailed pencil since I started to create portraits professionally. The strange thing is that it is one of my best two pencil portraits I ever created.
Such a wonderful memorial for someone lost horse! The size is rather small, but still so realistic and full of life. I drew this portrait for a client here in Sweden and they personally came to collect the portrait.
Medium: Graphite Pencil
Size: 30 x 25 cm
Year Drawn: 2013
Subject: Horse / Arab / Fossing
Commissioned by: Inger Nilsson, Sweden
The Reference Photograph of "Fossing"
The client Inger send me several good photographs of the horse. I chose the photo I felt was best suitable for a pencil portrait. First I cropped the photo and made it black and white. The I added the mane from another photo and made the background lighter. I also lightened up some parts of the horse to create dimension.
Dog Portrait in Progress
Below you can view a few work in progress photos of this portrait. It is important for me that you understand the painting process at the same as you have a full input the entire time, that is why I’m prepared to spend some extra time in order to keep you regularly updated. I have had this feature for many years, even though I uploaded the progress images to a static html page at first. Now I use my portraits in blog for this exciting feature. If you do not wish to share your painting’s progress or the completed painting with the world, I can send you the progress images by email. Several clients decided to do this, especially famous ones.
Now we have been amazed at the painting, cried a little and are incredibly happy. It's amazing that you were able to capture his expressions, his soul so tremendously good.
