American Bulldog Pet Portraits in Oil by Katja Turnsek
Pet Portrait Commission Info
I rarely see a photo I just have to paint, but this one is one of them. I found the photo on the internet, shot by the russian photographer Natalia Vlasova. It's a photo taken of her own dog; Tigerbull Little Fifteen. He was running in water, caught just at the right moment.
I painted this American Bulldog in oil on linen canvas. This was no commission, just a project based on a photo I was inspired by. This stunning painting is hanging on my wall and I'm happy that I am able to look at it every time I walk by. If you are interested in purchasing this oil painting, just send me an e-mail.

The Reference Photograph of "Tigerbull"
Naturally, I didn't make any alternations to this photograph before I started to create the oil painting. The only thing I did while I painted was that I ruled out some details and created a more harmonious color entirety. There were zillion water drops and I couldn't paint all of them. Also, photos in general make darks too dark and lights too bright, so that's what I had in mind while I was painting as well. This was a really great shot to paint from.
Pet Portrait in Progress
Below you can view a few work in progress photos of this portrait. It is important for me that you understand the painting process at the same as you have a full input the entire time, that is why I’m prepared to spend some extra time in order to keep you regularly updated. I have had this feature for many years, even though I uploaded the progress images to a static html page at first. Now I use my portraits in blog for this exciting feature. If you do not wish to share your painting’s progress or the completed painting with the world, I can send you the progress images by email. Several clients decided to do this, especially famous ones.
